You will learn from Elisabetta, whose work is known to incorporate layers of textures giving her pieces a unique quality. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eTexture is so much more than a glaze. Texture is the way in which light falls on a surface, layers build upon each other at different steps of the making journey, the way we can use materials at our disposal to create a living surface. You will learn how to use grog, slip, oxides, resists, metal and other materials to create interesting textures. We will also explore techniques such as carving and using every day objects to add texture to your work. We will work in stages and you will draw upon Elisabetta's research to understand how materials can be layered to create a truly unique surface. We highly recommend you bring your studio notebook with you, so you can take notes of what you used. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eImportant\u003c\/strong\u003e: Please note that this is an \u003cstrong\u003eintermediate\u003c\/strong\u003e class and it is appropriate for those who have some experience with hand-building. Elisabetta will demonstrate a special technique during the first session but there will be no teaching of basic hand-building techniques. We recommend that you have taken at least a hand-building class before (it does not have to be in our studio, but something similar to \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.kleistonestudio.com\/products\/discover-hand-building-full-class\"\u003eHand-building and glazing\u003c\/a\u003e or the \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.kleistonestudio.com\/products\/kleistone-signature-intensive-ceramic-class-4-weeks\"\u003eintensive class\u003c\/a\u003e). While you do not need to be an expert, some glazing experience is also required. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eSession 1 (February 6th 2027):\u003c\/strong\u003e Elisabetta will demonstrate how to create her unique bark texture and you will be able to try it out. After the demonstration, she will give you an introduction into the materials at your disposal during the making stage and you will be able to look at our tests. Then you will start making your pieces (we recommend to make something small) and you will experiment with the materials.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eSession 2 (February 13th 2027)\u003c\/strong\u003e: The pieces you have made will now be ready for more layering or carving. Elisabetta will discuss her carving approach. You will be able to take inspiration from her forms – which she carves over the course of many days. During this session you will be able to layer over the pieces made in your first session and also make additional work. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eSession 3 (February 27th 2027)\u003c\/strong\u003e: Two weeks after the second session, you will be back for glazing.
